Western Avenue to be closed tomorrow through Sunday

SEATTLE- Beginning tomorrow morning, Friday, April 18, Western Avenue will be closed to all traffic including bicycles and pedestrians between Union and University streets, and to all through vehicular traffic between Virginia and University streets, to allow Ness Crane to safely take down a tower crane. The closure will begin at 10 a.m. tomorrow and will continue through Sunday, April 20. The time the street will be reopened on Sunday will depend on how long it takes to complete the job, and the closure may continue into the evening.

Through traffic will be detoured, with Police Officers present to help direct traffic. Northbound traffic on Western Avenue will be detoured to Alaskan Way, and then Broad Street, circling back on Elliott Avenue. Southbound traffic will be detoured to First Avenue and then to Madison Street.

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle's $8 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the region.
