Airport Way to be closed this weekend and next

SEATTLE- This Saturday and Sunday, January 12 and 13, workers will begin demolishing the Rainier Ice House at 5900 Airport Way South. Because the building is a brick structure, the roadway must be blocked off in the event of flying brick debris.

While Airport Way S. is closed, southbound motorists will be directed westbound on S Lucile Street, then southbound on Fourth Avenue S, eastbound on S Michigan Street which becomes S Bailey Street, then northbound on 13th Avenue S and back to Airport Way S. Northbound drivers will be directed southbound on 13th Avenue S, westbound on S Bailey Street, northbound on Corson Avenue S and then to Airport Way S.

More info will be forthcoming regarding the continued demolition activities at the end of next week, the weekend of January 19.

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle's $8 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the region.
