Closure on Burke Gilman Trail for repair work

SEATTLE-Weather permitting, Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will close the Burke Gilman Trail this week between NE 65th and NE 70th for repair work on a stretch of about 60 feet just south of NE 70th. Signage will direct trail users to take 58th Ave NE for five blocks between NE 65th and NE 70th Streets.

During the closure, SDOT crews will remove the existing pavement where there is significant tree root damage, grind down the problem roots, install root barriers to prevent future root problems and then repave the damaged areas of asphalt.

If the weather cooperates, the work should be completed this week. This project is funded by the Bridging the Gap Transportation Initiative.

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle's $8 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the region.
