Bridge Painting Requires Lane Closures on S Dearborn Street

The painting contractor is finishing work on the Jose Rizal Bridge over the next several weeks. South Dearborn Street under the bridge will be restricted to one lane in each direction from Monday, December 3 to Friday, December 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Pedestrian access to the sidewalk along the north side of South Dearborn Street will be maintained.

The painting contractor will also perform minor work on both sides of the bridge on 12th Avenue South. Pedestrians will be able to use the sidewalks on both sides of the street.

Normal work hours for this project are 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturdays. The project work is weather dependant.

Painting will help preserve the steel parts of the Jose Rizal Bridge. The entire project, which began in August 2007, includes pressure washing, removing rust and damaged paint, and repainting all the structural steel below the bridge and at street level. The contractor expects to complete the project by the end of the year.
