Holiday Season ramps up Friday

SEATTLE-Friday morning, November 23, the traditional Macy’s Holiday Parade gets underway in downtown Seattle. The parade route heads southbound on 5th from Pine to University, then west on University to 4th Ave, and northbound on 4th from University Pine/Olive. The parade route and streets in between will be closed to through traffic from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Also, the southbound I-5 exit to Union Street will be closed from 8:30 - 10 a.m. Parade planners anticipate a crowd of 35,000 spectators. Bus service will be shifted from 4th and 5th avenues onto 3rd Avenue during the event.

Later in the day, over 10,000 people will pack into the Westlake Plaza for the evening Westlake Tree Lighting Celebration from 5:00 - 5:30 p.m. Streets feeding into the Westlake Plaza will be closed from roughly from 4:45 to 6 p.m.

Also Friday evening, the University of Washington Husky Band will rev up the Huskies supporters with a Pre-Game Rally Parade starting on the campus which moves onto the adjacent streets in the “Greek Row” area just north of the campus. Seattle Police will escort the parade from 9:00 - 10:00 p.m. The Huskies will play the Washington State Cougars on Saturday, November 24, at 4:00 p.m., with the usual traffic control plan in place for the University District.
