Fremont Bridge nighttime closures Nov 12 to Nov 16

SEATTLE - SDOT’s contractor plans nighttime Fremont Bridge closures Monday, November 12 to Friday morning, November 16. On these nights the bridge will be closed to all traffic to remove the mechanical and electrical systems on the south leaf of the bridge in preparation for replacement.

Monday, November 12 at 9 p.m. to Tuesday, November 13 at 6 a.m.
Tuesday, November 13 at 9 p.m. to Wednesday, November 14 at 6 a.m.
Wednesday, November 14 at 9 p.m. to Thursday, November 15 at 6 a.m.
Thursday, November 15 at 9 p.m. to Friday, November 16 at 6a.m.

SDOT’s contractor will provide a shuttle service for pedestrians and bicyclists from 9 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. between the north and south ends of the bridge (from roughly North 34th Street and Fremont Avenue North to roughly Nickerson and Fourth Avenue North) making the loop approximately every 20 to 30 minutes. Signs will be placed noting the pick up and drop off locations. Buses will be rerouted during these closures. As the date approaches, see Metro Online at http://transit.metrokc.gov or call Rider Information, 553-3000.

Marine traffic will not be impacted by these closures.

Because the Fremont Bridge continues to be operated by a temporary winch during this phase of construction, three full bridge openings (both halves of the bridge) take 15 minutes, instead of the previous 3 to 5 minutes. These longer openings take place at 5 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 11 p.m. Drivers headed over the Fremont Bridge may want to schedule their trips accordingly, or take an alternate route at these times. For other openings, only one half of the bridge will open at a time, shortening the duration of the closure to motor vehicles.

For more information about the project, see www.seattle.gov/fremontbridge.

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle's $8 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the region.
