Government access channel nets 4 first-place honors

SEATTLE — TVSea, Seattle’s municipal cable channel, picked up four first-place awards in the Alliance for Community Media’s "Best of the Northwest" contest, which honors outstanding community television programs from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming and Alberta and British Columbia.

Noncommercial programs produced for public, educational and governmental access channels are eligible. Of the six programs Seattle entered, these four received top awards:

    • At Their Fingertips (human understanding category). This short documentary, about three Seattle residents who were born deaf and are now losing their vision, examines their concerns about going blind while they display courage and pride in themselves as active members of their communities.
    • Voices of the WTO (documentary). This documentary offers an overview of the WTO ministerial conference, focusing on the issues rather than the aftermath. It features "on the scene" interviews with WTO delegates and protestors.
    • A View From Here (The Northwest). This video blends art, poetry and musical performances in honor of the Mount Rainier Centennial celebration. Artists discuss how Mount Rainier has inspired their work. The video was taped an at event at the Seafirst/Bank of American gallery.
    • Longfellow Creek (environment). This video, co-produced with Seattle Public Utilities, is the first in a series of videos examining Seattle’s Urban Creeks Legacy project, which highlight urban creek restoration in Seattle.

These and other videos may be viewed on TVSea’s streaming video web site: http://media.ci.seattle.wa.us/ For TVSea’s weekly program schedule and other information, visit the station’s web site: http://cityofseattle.net/tvsea/
