Celebrations a Plenty - Streets to be Closed for Events

SEATTLE- In the coming days, there are many street closures scheduled for events happening around and in downtown Seattle.

Tomorrow, Thursday, October 4th, the east sidewalk and the east curb lane of 6th Avenue between Union and Pike Streets will be closed from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. when the Sheraton Seattle Hotel celebrates its Grand Re-Opening. Up to 5,000 people are expected turn out for the event.

The American Heart Walk takes place Saturday morning, October 6th, with an anticipated 10,000 participants assembling at Qwest Field. From 8:00 - 11:30 a.m., 1st Avenue from Jackson to Atlantic Streets, Royal Brougham from 4th Avenue to the Alaskan Way Viaduct, and the Alaskan Way Viaduct will be closed to make way for the walkers.

Also on Saturday in Ballard, from 6:00 a.m. to midnight, 22nd Ave NW will be closed from NW Market to NW Ballard streets for Reverb: Seattle Weekly Music Awards Showcase. The outdoor concert will draw around 2,500 celebrants.

On Sunday, October 7th, in the International District, 6th and 8th Avenues between and King and Weller Streets and King and Weller Streets between 6th and 8th Avenues will close for approximately one hour, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., for the Double Ten Parade which celebrates the birth of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The actual “birth” date is October 10th (10/10), hence the title Double Ten.

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle's $8 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the region.
