Nickels Names Rich Feldman as Staff Advisor for Labor Issues
SEATTLE - Mayor Greg Nickels today announced the appointment of Rich Feldman
as his staff advisor on labor issues.
“Rich will be a great addition to my staff,” Nickels said. “He
brings years of experience on labor issues and building coalitions. He is an
innovator with the right values - a champion of helping people and the environment.”
Since 1995 Feldman has served as the executive director of the economic development
and work force division of the King County Labor Council, AFL-CIO in Seattle.
He also served as the Washington State coordinator of the Apollo Alliance,
a coalition of labor, environmental, business and community organizations focused
on livable wage jobs and energy independence.
He was a member of Gov. Gary Locke’s Sustainable Washington Advisory
Panel and served on Nickels’ Green Ribbon Commission on Climate Protection.
He is a member of the National Plug-in Partners Steering Committee.
For more than 15 years Feldman has worked on labor-based research and developed
economic growth strategies for industries and labor unions. He initiated the
Duwamish Coalition - an alliance of labor, business, government and community
- to resolve contamination issues and increase jobs in the industrial area
south of Seattle. He co-developed the business, labor and environment Build
Them in Washington Coalition which worked to ensure ferry construction jobs
went to local workers.
Feldman co-developed the Harvard/Ford Foundation Innovations in Local & State
Government award winning Community Voice Mail system, which provides homeless
people access to phone service and potential jobs.
Feldman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economic Geography from Oregon
State University.
Feldman, 47, starts his new position on April 23, 2007.
