Officer Involved Shooting Synopsis

On 01-17-07 at 10:09 hours, North Precinct Anti-Crime Team Officers Jon Huber and Troy Swanson were patrolling near the Georgian Court Motel.

The officers on-viewed a disturbance in the 8800 block of Aurora Ave N whereby someone was yelling to call 911. The officers then heard someone yell that the suspect had a gun. The suspect drew a handgun and started shooting at the victim, who was the motel manager’s son. The victim was not struck by the gunfire.

As the officers approached the suspect he then opened fire on them, hitting Officer Swanson in the abdomen below his ballistic vest. The officers returned fire, killing the suspect.

Officer Swanson was transported to Harborview Medical Center and underwent surgery for his injuries. He is in serious but stable condition, and his prognosis is good. Officer Swanson, who is a six-year veteran of the Department, is expected to make a full recovery. Officer Huber, an 11-year veteran of the Department, was not injured during the incident.
