Pioneer Square Murder Suspect Arrested
SEATTLE – A man wanted in a Pioneer Square shooting that left one man dead and two wounded was arrested yesterday afternoon in Renton. Seattle Police Homicide detectives, with the assistance of Deputy US Marshals and The Fugitive Apprehension Task Force arrested Kevin J. Monday, a 20-year old Federal Way man, as he left his place of employment.
Homicide detectives believe Monday is responsible for a shooting that occurred on April 22, 2006 at Yesler Way and Occidental Avenue South. The crime took place at 3:10 AM. In what started as a fight, the suspect produced a semi-automatic handgun and opened fire, fatally injuring one man on foot, and injuring two others in a passing car. The suspect then fled, avoiding capture by responding officers.
The detectives assigned to this case worked tirelessly to interview witnesses and follow up on leads. Their diligent investigation developed information, which indicated that Monday was responsible.
Monday would not escape a second time. He was taken into custody without incident. Monday was even wearing the same clothing that he had on the night of the murder! A search warrant served on his residence yielded ammunition similar to that used in the shooting. The murder weapon has not yet been recovered.
Monday was booked into King County Jail for one count of Investigation of Murder and two counts of Investigation of Assault.
