Mayor Praises State Legislature for Recognizing Gay Rights
"It's a matter of fairness"

"Today, the Washington State Legislature honored the memory of former State Representative Cal Anderson, who courageously began the battle so many years ago to protect gay and lesbian people from the hatefulness of discrimination. I am proud that our state can now fully realize its reputation as a guardian of equality and social justice for all people."

"The billed passed today showed the country that the right of gay and lesbian people to be protected from intolerance is fundamental to our humanity. I would particularly like to thank Representative Ed Murray who has carried on Cal Anderson's work with grace and dignity for so long. The people of Seattle will be forever grateful for your leadership."
