Alert for the Public Regarding Parking Lot Scams

There is a popular scam currently occurring in some downtown parking lots. Suspects are purchasing parking lot tickets with stolen credit cards and then selling the tickets to citizens who park in the lot. In some cases, citizens may come back to their car to find a pay envelope on their windshield because they did not purchase a legitimate ticket for their specific parking slot. The Seattle Police Department is sending out this advisory as a reminder to the public to be certain that they do not fall prey to this scam. Most parking lots advise the public that an attendant is on duty. If not, the lot is a self-service facility and citizens should make their payment for parking directly to the pay box or machine. Legitimate parking lot attendants generally wear official documentation or markings that clearly identify them as employees of the parking lot. If you believe that someone is posing as a lot attendant without authorization, please call 911.
