GODDEN OPPOSES “4-FOOT RULE”
Urges new zoning for neighborhood protection
SEATTLE –Today, Seattle City Councilmember Jean Godden opposed legislation defining regulations to adult entertainment businesses saying they miss the mark when it comes to protecting communities from the secondary impacts of strip clubs.
“My colleagues and I are struggling for an answer to legitimate concerns and that’s commendable,” said Godden. “I, too, want to protect our communities. Yet, in my heart, I believe this does not accomplish that goal.
Godden made her comments at today’s Full Council meeting before she voted against the new rules, aimed at regulating Seattle’s Adult Entertainment industry.
“I believe this legislation intrudes on the affairs of business,” said Godden. “We need to refocus our efforts on protecting our communities through appropriate zoning. I believe, if we work with our neighborhoods, we can come up with the right solutions. I would love to see that happen,” she added.
“I support the amendments co-sponsored by Councilmember Licata and myself because I believe they will reduce the intrusion of government. However, I cannot support this legislation as a whole,” Godden said.
