RASMUSSEN SUPPORTS ENDING MONORAIL PROJECT
SEATTLE –City Councilmember Tom Rasmussen announced ahead of imminent Council action on the City’s direction with regard to the Seattle Monorail Project that he would vote to end the project. Rasmussen issued the following statement:
“Having learned of last night’s action by the Seattle Monorail Authority Board, I have decided to support Councilman McIver’s proposed action to end the City’s support for the monorail. The board’s refusal to make a firm commitment to placing a ballot measure before the voters for either this November or next February is evidence of their continued unwillingness to accept the fact that they do not have sufficient revenues to build the 14-mile Green Line. I am very disappointed that the board is unable to accept that they must either shorten the line or increase tax revenues for the project to be financially feasible.
"The people of Seattle deserve and need effective mass transit and I am committed to that goal. But the time has come to end this project today in order to move Seattle forward for tomorrow.”
