Seattle Police Statement Regarding Ongoing Murder Investigation
The Seattle Police Department would like to clarify two pieces of information that have been reported by various media outlets.
The first is whether or not the murder suspect had been arrested and released for burglary on June 26. The fact is that he was not arrested on that date. Our officers did contact the suspect, but there was no reason or probable cause to arrest him. A different person was arrested as a result of that burglary investigation.
The second is that the murder suspect had an outstanding warrant, and that the warrant was not served due to a misspelled name. The suspect did indeed have an outstanding warrant for a property crime. However, the last name on the warrant had a different spelling than the suspect’s actual name. This is why officers were not alerted to the warrant during previous contacts.
In order to complete a thorough and accurate investigation in the timeframe allowed by law, additional comment will be withheld until the suspect has been formally charged. At that time, more details will be available. The King County Prosecutor’s Office will be the point of contact for questions regarding the charging documents.
