Civilian Heroes Recognized
Seattle – Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske and Fire Chief Gregory Dean today honored 10 Seattle residents for their role in rescuing a 64-year old man from drowning in Lake Union last week.
The man's car went into the water just after 5:00 p.m. on May 12 at a boat ramp at 2401 North Northlake Way. The car was nearly submerged in the lake when bystanders jumped into the water. They had to break the back window and cut through the man's seatbelt to save him. Some of the citizens then started CPR. Seattle Police Harbor Patrol and Seattle Firefighters took over and the man was transported to Harborview via medic unit.
Citizens Jim Barrett, Jan Bultman, Chris Cavanagh, John Dunato, Jim Dunn, Roger Hinton, Bonnie Kathlean, Aaron Loehr, Shawn McCain, and Matt Williams were each presented a Certificate of Recognition from the Police and Fire Departments, including a Police Department Chief’s pen and Fire Department Chief's coin for their act of bravery.
