Statement by Mayor Nickels on Council budget vote

"The budget adopted by the Council today represents an agreement on the overall direction of the city as we move forward on economic recovery. I particularly want to thank the chairman of the budget committee, Councilmember Richard McIver, for his steady and effective leadership during this budget process.

The city is better off than it was three years ago. This budget makes progress on all four of the priorities I’ve set for the City- improving public safety, economic opportunity for all, building strong families and healthy communities and getting Seattle moving.

In 2005, I will be asking the Council to work with me to place particular emphasis on public safety.”
