Susan Orlean guests on
‘Book Lust with Nancy Pearl,’ Friday, Nov. 5 at 8 p.m.
The second program in the series Book Lust with Nancy Pearl will feature nationally celebrated author Susan Orlean. The program premieres Friday, November 5th at 8:00 PM on the Seattle Channel, cable channel 21, and will be rebroadcast several times throughout the month.
Ms. Orlean will discuss her new book, "My Kind of Place: Travel Stories from a Woman Who’s Been Everywhere." The book is a collection of stories recounting her journeys near and far, from the heart of the African music scene in Paris to the World Taxidermy Championships in Springfield, Illinois.
Susan Orlean has been a staff writer at the New Yorker since 1992. Her articles have appeared in Esquire, Rolling Stone, Outside and Vogue. She is also the author of three other books including "The Orchid Thief"; inspiration for the movie Adaptation starring Meryl Streep.
Book Lust with Nancy Pearl is hosted by Seattle’s most famous librarian. Each month, the series introduces viewers to new books via interviews with the author.
Nancy Pearl, the only librarian ever to be immortalized with an action figure, is a longtime freelance contributor to Booklist magazine. She served as a librarian in the Seattle Public Library system until her recent retirement. Her 2003 release "Book Lust: Recommended Reading for Every Mood, Moment and Reason" was the inspiration for the Seattle Channel series.
Next month’s program features an interview with Stephen Greenblatt, author of "Will in the World: How Shakespeare became Shakespeare". New programs in this series will premiere on the first Friday of each month at 8:00 P.M.
The Seattle Channel is available on channel 21 for Comcast and Millennium Digital Media cable customers. The Seattle Channel is web cast around the clock on the Internet; the programming carried on the city municipal channel is streamed simultaneously on our website.
