COUNCIL BEGINS REVIEW OF CITY'S 2005-2006 BIENNIAL BUDGET

SEATTLE - The hard work of reviewing the City's proposed 2005-2006 Biennial Budget now shifts to the Seattle City Council after the Mayor presented his proposals in Council Chambers this afternoon.

"Over the next several months my Council colleagues and I will be examining the Mayor's budget proposal in detail with the expectation that we will complete our work by Thanksgiving," said Councilmember Richard McIver, chair of the Council's Budget Committee.

The first opportunity for Seattle citizens to share their opinions of the Mayor's budget will occur next week, on Thursday, October 7, at 6:30 PM, at Mt Zion Baptist Church (19th & Madison). Councilmember McIver will be hosting the Town Hall Budget Meeting.

In addition, the Council invites the public to two Public Hearings on the budget. The first will occur on Thursday, October 14, at 5:30 here in the City Council Chambers at City Hall. The second such meeting will occur on Thursday, November 4, also at 5:30, here in the Chamber.

All other budget sessions will be held within the periods from 9:00 a.m. to noon and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. On Mondays, we will begin the budget session after the full Council meeting.

The Council's budget review process requires regular schedule changes. The most up-to-date information is on the web at: http://www.cityofseattle.net/council/budget/budget2005-07.htm.
