Phinney Fire Investigation

The Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF) National Response Team (NRT) has concluded their forensic examination of the Phinney Fire Scene. The cause of the fire is "undetermined" pending the results of lab tests.

All evidence processed from the Phinney fire scene will be sent to the ATF Fire Research Laboratory in Maryland for further analysis by forensic experts. Lab tests could take several weeks.

The Seattle Fire Department thanks the National Response Team for their assistance in greatly reducing the amount of time it took to process the on scene investigation. Seattle Fire Investigators will continue working with local ATF agents and the Seattle Police Arson Bomb Unit on follow-up interviews.

In relation to the recent series of arsons, the Seattle Fire Department will continue patrols in North End neighborhoods. The Department has received over 150 phone calls to the Arson Alarm Foundation hotline. We believe these tips may help and thank the community for their vigilance. As a reminder, the hotline number is 1-800-55 ARSON.
