Gary Gibson hired as General Manager of TVSea
Will oversee development of "democracy portal"

Gary Gibson has been hired as the new general manager of the city of Seattle's cable channel, TVSea. As general manager, Gibson will play a major role in improving the channel as it undergoes a transformation with the city's website to allow Seattle residents to better communicate with their elected officials. He assumed his duties on June 10.

Unveiled in May by Mayor Greg Nickels and City Councilmember Jim Compton, plans for the "democracy portal" call for new programming, live "web casting," and interactive services that make it easier for citizens to access government information and decision makers. Live video streaming of city council meetings began earlier this month.

Gibson has more than 25 years of experience producing television programs. He has created numerous programs for the Public Broadcasting System, including Chihuly over Venice, the first HDTV program broadcast nationwide on public television. Gibson was vice president for production at KCTS, Seattle from 1992 to 2000. At KCTS he oversaw a variety of programs including KCTS’s acclaimed "Over" series of aerial productions, the American Masters special Vaudeville, Buffett and Gates on Success, The Seattle Symphony Live from Benaroya Hall, Great Ranches of the West, and Stanley Kramer on Film.

Gibson’s work has earned the George Foster Peabody Award, eight regional Emmys, seven Washington Press Awards, and the Gold Medal of the New York Film Festival. Gibson has produced television, live theatre, concerts, events, and exhibitions throughout the United States.

Gibson is a graduate of the University of Washington’s School of Communications, and the Graduate School of Business Management Program.
