City of Seattle’s Web site named one of five "top picks"
in the nation
Seattle site recognized for 4th year in a row
SEATTLE — For the fourth year in a row, the city of Seattle’s municipal web
site – www.cityofseattle.net – was recently named one of the country’s five
"top picks" of big city web sites by MuniNet Guide & Review.
Seattle’s site, in part, was recognized as "one of the most informative local
government sites on the web today. Its organization is exemplary, particularly in light of
the vast amount of content offered on the site. Its laudable features are too many in
number to list, but highlights included a streaming video of Mayor Nickels’ State of
the City address, demographics – in five languages, the opportunity to receive City
Council meeting agendas via e-mail… In addition…the site serves as a portal,
linking residents, businesses and other interested parties to a slew of state, county and
local agencies and resources."
In selecting the top five picks for its fifth annual tribute, MuniNet Guide &
Review judges looked for sites "on the cutting edge – sites that inform, empower
citizens, allow for interaction, and deliver services."
The other cities earning the "top pick" status are New York, N.Y., San Diego,
Calif., Virginia Beach, Va., and Austin, Texas.
MuniNet Guide & Review (www.muninetguide.com), a hard copy newsletter and annual
Site Directory, also provides a searchable database of municipal and related web sites.
