Seattle launches new on-line volunteer opportunities web portal:

SEATTLE — The city of Seattle has launched a new web portal page on its award-winning web site to help people connect with the right volunteer program.
"Seattle is a city with a long history of volunteerism, and neighborhood and civic participation," says Mayor Paul Schell. "There are so many great volunteer opportunities within the city, it can be a bit difficult to find the ones that best match your interest, skills and schedule. We created this site to make it easier for people to find the ideal volunteer opportunity."
Developed by the city’s central web team, this portal page offers "one-stop web shopping," bringing together dozens of volunteer program links from virtually every city department or group, conveniently organized by areas of interest, such as "Conservation and Environment," "Animals and Wildlife," "Human Services," "Public Safety," "Streets and Traffic," and more.
The site also provides links to the many public councils and advisory boards sponsored by the city, such as the Citizens Telecommunication and Technology Advisory Board, the Ethics and Elections Commission, and the Women’s Commission.
"There may be enhancements to this web page in the future, such as an interactive on-line application form, a "What’s Hot" area for the latest volunteer opportunities, or even a volunteer events calendar," says Internet and Cable TV Director Rona Zevin. "We’re especially interested in receiving citizen feedback now to guide us in our development of site improvements."
If you have any questions or want to provide feedback about the new volunteer opportunities web portal page, contact policies or participants, please contact Seattle Web Content Manager Bruce Blood at (206)386-1758 or via email at bruce.blood@ci.seattle.wa.us
