Mayor Murray renames City Hall as "Kitty Hall" for the day
Interactive kitten exhibit on Tuesday to highlight and encourage cat adoptions
SEATTLE – Get ready for irresistible cuteness as kittens take over City Hall tomorrow, Tuesday, July 15. Mayor Ed Murray has proclaimed renaming City Hall to "Kitty Hall" for the day. Read the proclamation here.
WHAT: Seattle Animal Shelter's interactive kitten exhibit
WHEN: Tuesday, July 15, 2014, noon–1 p.m.
WHERE: Kitty Hall Plaza at Fourth Avenue and Cherry Street.
The public is invited into the enclosed tent to play and cuddle with the kittens available for adoption. While no adoptions will be performed on site, this is a great way to meet a potential pet.
The Kitty Hall event highlights the Seattle Animal Shelter's foster care program and promotes shelter cat adoptions. The shelter currently has more than 200 cats and kittens available for adoption, both at the shelter and in foster homes. The kittens at Tuesday's event are all currently under the care of foster parents.
"Cats are adorable, loving and easy companions," said Seattle Animal Shelter Director Don Jordan. "Not only are they independent and great entertainers, but having a pet may help lower your blood pressure and your risk of heart disease. And with the staggering number of cats in need of homes, this is a great time to find the right furry companion to add to your household."
The Seattle Animal Shelter relies on volunteers to provide temporary foster care in their homes to rehabilitate and nurture sick, injured and immature cats and kittens or to just give adoptable cats a break from the shelter environment. Visit the shelter's website at www.seattle.gov/animal-shelter/volunteer/foster-care for more information about the foster care program.
The Seattle Animal Shelter, located at 2061 15th Ave. W., is open Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. for adoptions and licensing. The phone number is 206-386-7387 (PETS). Animals available for adoption can be viewed online at www.seattleanimalshelter.org.
