Broadway Streetcar design kicks off with an open house

SEATTLE – The Seattle Department of Transportation is in preliminary design on the Broadway Streetcar Project (a northward extension of the First Hill Streetcar). An open house is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Lowell Elementary School.

The Broadway Streetcar will lengthen the reach of the Seattle Streetcar system approximately one-half mile north of East Denny Way on Capitol Hill. This extension to the north end of the Broadway commercial district has been supported by the Capitol Hill community since early planning for the streetcar system.

The Broadway Streetcar will incorporate two or three new stops and include a protected bicycle lane along the route. The project’s total cost is estimated to be $25 million and construction is expected to begin in fall 2016, pending funding

This will be an opportunity for the public to review design concepts, proposed station locations, protected bicycle lane elements and the areas of environmental analysis. The open house format will allow for attendees to drop in at any time.

SDOT has largely completed construction of the First Hill Streetcar Line which will begin operating later this year.
