City Council to begin review of Minimum Wage proposal Monday, May 5

SEATTLE - City Council's Select Committee on the Minimum Wage and Income Inequality will begin its review of Mayor Ed Murray's proposal to raise the minimum wage to $15/hour Monday, May 5 at 2:30 p.m. The Committee will receive an in-depth presentation on the Mayor's proposal from representatives in the Mayor's office and from the Mayor's Income Inequality Advisory Committee.

"I'd like to thank the mostly-volunteer Income Inequality Advisory Committee and the Mayor for their hard work over the past several weeks," said Councilmember Sally J. Clark, chair of the Council's Select Committee on the Minimum Wage and Income Inequality. "The careful study and strong debate carried out by the Mayor's task force have been a model for how our city can take on complex issues, and nothing is more complex than addressing income inequality.

"We began our work concurrently with the Mayor's committee. We've made use of their data and research. It's my hope we can launch quickly into our review and decision-making."

The tentative review schedule for the proposed legislation is listed below. All meetings will take place in City Council Chambers, 600 Fourth Avenue, second floor, unless otherwise noted. All meetings will be open to the public and televised by the Seattle Channel. Twenty minutes will be allotted for public comment at all committee meetings. The Council accepts written public comments at any time.
