Seattle Parks host public meeting
for Lakewood and Leschi moorage facilities
Seattle Parks and Recreation invites the community and tenants from the Lakewood and Leschi moorages to a public meeting on Monday, October 14, 2013 from 7 – 8 p.m. at Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing, 3800 Lake Washington Blvd S, Seattle, 98118.
At this meeting, Seattle Parks will outline the process for convening a Project Advisory Team (PAT) and discuss the next steps for moving forward on moorage improvements. Nathan Torgelson, Parks PAT liaison, will provide information on how tenants and community members can apply to become members of the PAT.
The PAT will start meeting in late 2013 and continue its work into the first quarter of 2014. The work will culminate in a recommendation to the Parks Superintendent on the future of the moorages.
In August, Seattle Parks hosted a meeting to give an update on the Request for Proposal (RFP) process for the moorages. After hearing the community concerns, Mayor Mike McGinn agreed that Parks should stop the RFP process and change direction. He allocated $4 million in his 2014 budget for repairs to the South Leschi moorage. This moorage has the most immediate need for improvements. City Council will consider the Mayor’s funding recommendation, and adopt a final budget in November.
Lakewood and Leschi moorages are located on the western shore of Lake Washington. Lakewood is approximately 1.5 miles south of the I-90 Bridge. Leschi is approximately 1 mile north of the I-90 Bridge. The moorage facilities are currently managed by a private operator through a concessionaire agreement. Both moorages are popular facilities with waiting lists for the most popular size slips of approximately 1-2 years.
