Mayor McGinn's statement on announcement of Cherry Point scoping review criteria
Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn issued the following statement today regarding the announcement by the Army Corps of Engineers, Whatcom County, and the state Department of Ecology of the scope of the environmental impact analysis for the proposed Cherry Point coal export terminal:
"I am very pleased that the state Department of Ecology will look at a wide range of potential impacts to our economy, environment and health from coal trains and coal exports at the proposed Cherry Point terminal. The elected and tribal leaders who have joined me in the Leadership Alliance Against Coal urged the state to undertake this broad assessment because the communities touched by coal export need a full understanding of all the potential impacts. I thank Governor Inslee for his continued leadership on this issue. We look forward to contributing to the state's analysis of the impacts of coal trains and coal exports to our communities, our environment, our health, our economy, and our cultural heritage."
