Aug. 9 forum focuses on health care insurance

How do I choose the best health insurance plan for my family? What is the Washington Health Benefit Exchange and how will it affect my coverage? What is the meaning of Medicare terms like "Part D" and "doughnut hole"?

Answers to these and other questions will be available at a forum on health care insurance on Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Kent Senior Activity Center (600 E Smith St, Kent), from 12 noon to 1:15 p.m.

Hosted by the Seattle-King County Advisory Council on Aging & Disability Services, the forum features Liz Mercer from Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA)—a program sponsored by the Office of the Washington State Insurance Commissioner. Ms. Mercer will discuss how the Affordable Care Act might affect you and how you can access free, unbiased and confidential assistance with Medicare and health care choices.

In addition, 33rd District State Senator Karen Keiser and State Representative Dave Upthegrove will discuss recent legislative action related to health care coverage and other health care priorities.

Sign-in starts at 11 a.m. outside the meeting room. Doors open at 11:45 a.m. and lunch is provided.

Space is limited so tickets are required, and there is a small charge to cover lunch costs. The first 80 tickets cost $2 each—limit two per person. After 80, tickets cost $6 each (no limit—must purchase by Friday, August 2nd, for guaranteed seating.) For tickets, please call 253-856-5150.

The mission of the Seattle-King County Advisory Council for Aging & Disability Services is to identify the needs of older people and adults with disabilities in our community; advise on services to meet these needs; and advocate for local, state and national programs that promote quality of life for these populations.
