Seattle Parks and Recreation starts construction on Madrona Shelterhouse
Seattle Parks and Recreation started construction on the improvements for the Madrona Shelterhouse on April 3, 2013. Parks anticipates completion by May 18, 2013.
This project will reconfigure the men’s and women’s public restrooms at the shelterhouse and a family restroom that is accessible to people with disabilities will be added inside the shelterhouse. People can enter this restroom from inside the shelterhouse and it will be available year-round during shelterhouse rentals.
The shelterhouse is closed during construction. Parks has provided a temporary accessible porta-potty that will be available for the duration of the project.
The Parks and Green Spaces Levy funds this project. The Levy established an inflation adjustment for development projects intended to ensure that, should there be inflation in the construction industry, projects built in the later years of the levy would have sufficient funding. To date, levy projects have not experienced significant inflation, and in fact have benefited from a competitive bid climate. These factors provided an opportunity to finance other projects. The Madrona Shelterhouse Improvement project is one of 17 high priority large maintenance projects that benefit from this savings.
