POWER RESTORED TO WEST SEATTLE’S GATEWOOD NEIGHBORHOOD

Affected by underground power cable failure

SEATTLE — Seattle City Light crews restored service to all customers affected by this morning’s power outage in West Seattle’s Gatewood neighborhood. The outage was due to the failure of an underground power cable.

The outage was first reported at 4:30 a.m., Sunday, November 11, 2012 and affected 3,257 customers. The original boundaries were on the north SW Findlay Street; on the south SW Henderson Street; on the east 28th Avenue SW; and on the west, Puget Sound. In attempting to reroute power to restore a portion of the original customers with another feeder (major power line), the second feeder relayed out. So, a second block of customers was without power for about ten minutes, including the Westwood neighborhood. At its height, the outages affected approximately 11,000 customers. All customers had their power restored by 7:30 a.m.

Seattle City Light is the tenth largest public electric utility in the United States. It has some of the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable and environmentally responsible power to nearly 1 million Seattle area residents. City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the nation to achieve that distinction.
