Building Improvements for Loyal Heights Community Center Begin
Seattle Parks and Recreation is installing a new energy efficient boiler and upgrading the electrical system at Loyal Heights Community Center. The work to replace the existing heating system begins on Monday, October 15, 2012 and extends to the end of the year. A temporary heat system will be installed to keep the building warm during operating hours. Upgrades to the existing electrical system will also occur during the last part of the year, and will include replacement of old fuse panels, new wiring, and circuits as necessary.
Parks will remove the 1940’s era boiler, provide access improvements and do some additional architectural improvements throughout the building.
Programs will remain in progress during this time, however, some minor amount of disruption from noise and construction personnel in the building may occur.
The funding for the project was allocated from the Parks and Green Spaces Levy the Levy established an inflation adjustment for development projects intended to ensure that, should there be inflation in the construction industry, projects built in the later years of the levy would have sufficient funding. To date, levy projects have not experienced inflation and have benefited from a competitive bid climate.
Based upon the absence of construction industry inflation, the Parks and Green Spaces Levy Oversight Committee recommended re-allocating these funds to a specific list of high priority major maintenance projects at Seattle Parks and Recreation such as the Loyal Heights Community Center project.
