Seattle Parks and Recreation, Hiawatha Advisory Council invite community to celebrate renovation of Dakota Place Park building
Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Hiawatha Community Center Advisory Council invite the community to an open house celebration for Dakota Place Park on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 2 – 5 p.m. The celebration is an opportunity for the community to learn about the future programming of the building, take a tour of it, and enjoy a community barbeque and music. Dakota Place Park is located at 4304 SW Dakota St. in West Seattle. Seattle Parks will operate Dakota Place Park as an extension of the Hiawatha Community Center with community programming and public rental space.
This community driven project received funding through the Pro Parks Levy, the Hiawatha Community Center Advisory Council, the Department of Neighborhoods and the Friends of Dakota Place Park. The renovated building now provides two multi-purpose rooms, two restrooms that are accessible for people with disabilities, a small food prep area, new interior site furnishings, storage space, and a sound system.
Phase one of Dakota Place Park provided a new community park, integrated art work, outdoor site furnishings, and extensive plantings. Additional work included access improvements, lighting, refurbishing existing historic elements, automated irrigation, and partial rehabilitation of the exiting historic City Light Substation Building. Seattle City Light transferred the substation to Seattle Parks in 2005.
