Temporary closure at Jefferson Community Center

Seattle Parks and Recreation is temporarily closing the Jefferson Community Center for an electrical upgrade project. The center will be closed from Thursday, September 20, 2012 until Monday September 24, 2012, with doors opening at 7 a.m. on Monday to accommodate day care and program classes. This electrical upgrade adds a new emergency generator and automatic transfer switch to keep the building powered in the event of a power outage at the facility. The community center is located at 3801 Beacon Avenue S, Seattle, WA 98118.

Programs scheduled for Friday, September 21, 2012 may be affected by this closure and if participants have any questions they are encouraged to check with the community center staff at 206-684-7481or http://www.seattle.gov/parks/centers/Jeffercc.htm. All classes and programs scheduled for Saturday, September 22 are canceled.  Seattle Parks specifically chose this date for the closure to minimize impact to the community centers programs and the citizens that patronize them.

The entire project provides seismic upgrades to community center facility, including roof component seismic strapping, shear walls within structure, replace existing roof, gutters, and parapet, repair/replace clear story siding, replace metal sheeting on roof curbs. It will also remove existing HVAC roof unit and replace with new heat pump system. There is also a myriad of architectural improvements to include reconfiguring the sky lights, replacement of old ceiling panels, fresh paint and other minor upgrades.

Funded in part by a State Department of the Military Hazard Mitigation grant using Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds, the upgrades at the community center will allow the building to operate as an emergency congregation facility and shelter during times of disaster

For more information about the center, please visit the web at http://www.seattle.gov/parks/maintenance/jefferson_cc.htm or contact Gary Gibbons, Project Manager at 206-386-1511 or gary.gibbons@seattle.gov
