2012 USA Canoe Kayak Sprint National Championships Coming to Green Lake August 23 through 26

Seattle Parks and Recreation and The Seattle Canoe and Kayak Club (SCKC) is pleased to host the 2012 USA CANOE KAYAK Sprint National Championships and the Masters Sprint National Championships from August 23 through 26, at the Green Lake Small Craft Center (GLSCC), in Seattle. The GLSCC is located at the Southwest corner of beautiful Green Lake, in North Seattle.

This will be a high visibility international sports event with daily print, television and online media coverage. Many racing spectators will come from the Pacific Northwest and across the U.S.

Some parking lots on the south end of Green Lake will be closed beginning Tuesday, August 21, and some will be closed  from 6 a.m. Thursday, August 23 through the end of the event on Sunday, August 26.

The Seattle Canoe and Kayak Club is based at the GLSCC at the south end of Green Lake (next to the Aqua Theater facility). Immediately northwest of the Small Craft Center, on the east side of Green Lake Way, there is a large car parking area. Parks will use this area as regatta staging, with mobile food vendors and other vendor tents. The team tents will be in the grassy area to the north of the vendor area and the race announcer will be on the roof of the boathouse. The pedestrian/cycling path is adjacent to the vendor area.

Racing teams will arrive on Wednesday, August 22 to set up team tents and ready their boats. The main Nationals event runs from Thursday, August 23 through Saturday, August 25. Masters paddlers (older than 30) will race on Sunday, August 26. Racing will run from 8 a.m. to about 5 p.m. each day.

For more information, please visit the Small Craft office at 5900 W Green Lake Way N.
