Teen Program partners with community groups to collect needed items for Broadview Emergency Shelter
An opportunity to give generously to families in need

Seattle Parks and Recreation’s Student Teen Employment Preparation (STEP) Program is partnering with Solid Ground and Broadview Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing to hold a drop-off donation event for the shelter.

The drop-off takes place on Friday, August 10 and Friday, August 17 from noon to 3 p.m. at two sites:

  • Trader Joe’s, 1700 E Madison St.
  • PCC, 600 N  34th St.

Broadview Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing, which gets funding from Solid Ground, provides temporary housing for women and children displaced by domestic violence, health problems, or other crises. The shelter provides safety and help with such immediate needs as food, clothing, and hygiene and household supplies. Transitional housing provides longer-term aid in the form of 24-hour crisis intervention, counseling, goal setting, domestic violence support groups, legal advocacy, resources for children, and other services. Parks’ STEP Program is a summer program that provides opportunities for teens to get involved in helping the community, and then they take their newly acquired experience and skills into the workplace. Parks gets teens involved in issues and projects related to the environment, human services, and Seattle’s urban agriculture activities and organizations. The teens came up with the idea for their service project and reached out to the Broadview Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing to hold the drop-off donation for people at the emergency shelter.
