Parks host public meetings for play area and tennis court improvements at Rainier Beach Playfield
Seattle Parks and Recreation is hosting two community meetings to discuss the renovation of the Rainier Beach Playfield play area and tennis courts. The first meeting is Tuesday, July 17, 2012 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. at South Shore School Auditorium. South Shore School Auditorium is located at 4800 S. Henderson Street. The community is encouraged to attend.
At the first meeting Parks will present design options for the play area and tennis courts. Parks will gather input on play equipment and preferable design options. At the second meeting, Parks will present the schematic designs developed from input received. The second meeting is scheduled for September 18, 2012. These projects are funded through the Parks and Green Spaces Levy.
The play area renovation includes new play equipment for children ages 2-12, improved safety surfacing, better accessibility and site amenities that may include picnic tables and seating area. The tennis court renovation includes new court surfacing, new energy efficient lighting, and improved access for people with disabilities.
Seattle voters passed the Parks and Green Spaces Levy by a 59% vote in November 2008. The $146 million Levy provides acquisition funding for new neighborhood parks and green spaces and development funding for projects such as improved playfields, reservoir lid parks, renovated playgrounds, community gardens, and safety upgrades at city owned cultural facilities.
Rainier Beach Playfield is located at 8802 Rainier Ave S, Seattle WA 98118. For more information and to fill out a survey about the play area please visit: http://seattle.gov/parks/projects/rainier_beach_pf/ or contact Emily Lofstedt, Project Planner, at 206-684-7047 or Emily.lofstedt@seattle.gov.
