Seattle Parks to improve Green Lake Aquatheater

Seattle Parks and Recreation is making upgrades to the Green Lake Aquatheater. The restoration work, which will take place from June 11 through June 25 (weather permitting), includes:

  1. Trimming away invasive plants
  2. Removal of asbestos and lead paint
  3. Coating stair aisles with a non-slip surface
  4. Applying a weather resistant and moss resistant coating to seating surfaces
  5. Lighting upgrades

The exterior of the Aquatheater area will be closed to the public during construction. For safe access to interior rooms, please see the Rowing and Sailing Center staff for guidance. Other facilities and restrooms will not be affected.

For your safety, please be aware of construction activity as you cross the exercise path. Spotters and signage may occasionally reroute or stop you momentarily for your safety. Please follow their instructions.

Parks apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the construction and hopes the public will be pleased with the results.

Parks is undertaking this maintenance project, funded by the Environmental Protection Agency, primarily to address issues related to the Aquatheater’s status as a brownfield (defined by the EPA as existing or acquired land, water or structures requiring remedial or ongoing oversight for public access). The Aquatheater has worn and peeling painted surfaces and its exterior lights are in need of upgrading. The total budget is $47,000.
