City program has stopped delivery of thousands of unwanted phonebooks
Next deadline to opt-out of phonebook delivery coming up soon

PHOTO/VIDEO OPPORTUNITY: Seattle Public Utilities will announce the first-year results of Seattle’s nation-leading phone book opt-out campaign. There will be a TV-friendly demonstration showing viewers how they can sign up for the program online—and opt out now, before the May 22 deadline.

DATE:  Tuesday, April 24, 2010

TIME: 10 a.m.

LOCATION: Rainier Community Center, 4600 38th Ave S., Seattle

BACKGROUND:

  • In 2010, Seattle became the first city in the nation to mandate that the phone book industry honor residents’ choice regarding what is delivered to their home.
  • Since the opt-out program took effect last May 5, thousands of  Seattle residents and businesses have stopped hundreds of thousands of individual unwanted phone book deliveries — saving hundreds of  tons of paper.
  • May 22 is the last day to opt out to stop deliveries of Dex phone books this year. We’ll show your viewers how to do it!
