Seattle Parks Host Public Meeting to Discuss Magnuson Park Headwaters, and Interior and North Wetlands projects
Seattle Parks and Recreation will hold a public meeting to discuss the upcoming Headwaters, and Interior and North Wetlands projects on Monday, April 23, from 7 – 8:30 p.m. in the Garden Room at the Brig. The Brig is located at 6344 NE 74th St, Seattle, WA 98115. Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is also undertaking some related park improvements, and will be on hand to provide information.
The “headwaters” is the beginning of the entire wetland system at Magnuson Park, and is located NW of the intersection of 65th Ave. and Sportsfield Dr. This is a continuation of an on-going project, and will create approximately one and a half acres of new wetlands.
The interior wetlands project will restore close to 20 acres of wetland and the waterfront between the tower comfort station and the boat ramp. This project is pending funding through Washington State SR520 mitigation.
The north wetlands project will create greater hydroperiod diversity and therefore habitat complexity in a low-functioning wetland near the off leash area.
Park improvements by SPU include upgrades to NE. 65th St., the intersection of NE. 65th St. and Sportsfield Dr.
