Outage Caused by Vehicle Hitting Utility Pole

SEATTLE – Seattle City Light repair crews restored power by 4:15 p.m. to all customers affected by a power outage in the Skyway-Rainier Valley area today.

The outage started when a vehicle struck a utility pole near S. 129 Street and Beacon Coal Mine Road S in Seattle about 9 a.m.

About 3,000 customers were initially without service. Crews isolated the damage and restored power to all but about 100 customers by noon. Lineworkers had to replace the utility pole before they could restore service to those remaining homes and businesses.

The general boundaries of the outage were S Bangor Street on the north; S 170th Street on the south; 42nd Avenue S on the west; and 76th Avenue S on the east. Not all customers within these boundaries were affected.

Seattle City Light is the 10th largest public electric utility in the United States. It has some of the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable and environmentally responsible power to nearly 1 million Seattle area residents. City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the nation to achieve that distinction.
