Statement

Matthew Shepard 1977-1998

The City of Seattle Commission for Sexual Minorities adds its voice to the shock and sadness expressed by many others over the death of Matthew Shepard, an innocent victim of a hate-motivated attack. Sexual minorities should never worry that their lives are in danger because of their identity, but Matthew’s death reminds us that this fear is based in reality. We send our best wishes to Matthew’s family and community and hope to continue working in our capacity with Seattle City Government to promote tolerance and put an end to hate crime.

Members of the Seattle Commission for Sexual Minorities may be contacted at scsm@ci.seattle.wa.us or (206)684-4500 by individuals interested in working with the Commission on hate crimes related projects.
