Utilities Offer $30 Instant Discount on Water Efficient Toilets
Offer Valid on WaterSense Efficient Toilets through October

SEATTLE —Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) and the Saving Water Partnership (SWP) are offering a $30 instant discount on efficient toilets to help local homeowners cut their water bills while helping to protect precious water resources.

By replacing their old water-guzzling toilets with efficient WaterSense-labeled models, Seattle homeowners can cut their utility bills by $260 a year and reduce water waste – and utilities are offering qualified homeowners a $30 discount as an incentive.

To receive the discount, customers can take the $30 coupon they received in their last utility bill to one of six participating retailers by October 31, 2009: Aurora Plumbing, Junction True Value, McLendon Hardware, Morgan Electric & Plumbing, Pacific Supply and Love Plumbing & Remodeling. Eligible customers can get a replacement coupon by calling 206-684-SAVE (684-7283).

Toilets are the main source of water use in the home, accounting for approximately 30 percent of residential indoor water use. WaterSense-labeled toilets use less than 1.28 gallons per flush compared to the 3.5 gallons per flush or more used by toilets installed prior to 1994.

Toilets bearing the WaterSense label have been certified by independent laboratory testing for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to ensure they meet rigorous criteria for both performance and efficiency.

Program Manager Arece Hampton said that WaterSense-labeled toilets can deliver big savings to homeowners while saving water for spawning salmon when water supplies are our rivers low in the fall.

“A family of four in Seattle can save thousands of gallons of water and more than $260 a year on utility bills by installing a WaterSense-labeled toilet, without sacrificing performance,” said Hampton.

“We’re encouraging customers to take their $30 coupon to a participating retailer and take advantage of this great offer on these high performance toilets,” said Hampton. “The WaterSense label is a customer’s guarantee of performance, efficiency and quality.”
