Seattle Office for Civil Rights announces final amendments to appeals rules

The Seattle Office for Civil Rights (SOCR) has finalized amendments to the Seattle Human Rights Rules governing the appeals process in civil rights cases. The changes to the rules will make it easier for people who are considering filing an appeal of a no reasonable cause finding to understand and participate in the process. The changes also clarify the functions of the Human Rights Appeals Committee.

The amendments took effect on August 17, 2009 after a 30-day comment period that was open to the public. The full text of the revised rules is available at www.seattle.gov/civilrights. The authorizing legislation is contained in SMC 3.14.911: Adoption of Rules.
