P-Patch Community Gardens

Hillman City

What's New?

Hillman City Redevelopment and Expansion

Hillman City P-Patch was awarded a Matching Funds Grant in October, 2009 to begin the planning for redesigning the gardening area and community open space at our site.

A Re-design Steering Committee was formed from gardeners and neighbors.  This committee met every Tuesday evening at 7 pm in the library room of the New Light Christian Church at 4620 S Findlay St. Minutes of these meetings are available upon request.

The Re-Design Steering Committee chose Worthy and Associates as the LA for our project.  Carolyn Alcorn LA is part of this group and she recently designed the Spring Street P-Patch re-design.

The final design is displayed below. Please click image to view Final Preferred Plan Elements (pdf).

History

Hillman City P-Patch is a gem of a neighborhood-gathering place nestled in the heart of the Hillman residential neighborhood. Our P-Patch’s beauty is due to its productive, efficient, resourceful nature — a working person’s garden. Experienced, elder Laotian growers work side by side American-born new gardeners. The coop preschoolers maintain a lovely plot, neighborhood school-age children swing from our large willow, and neighbors drop by to view the whole production.
