Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative launches new website
The Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative (SYVPI) has launched a new website that provides information about its services, outcomes, partners, and opportunities for young people and community members.
The user-friendly site presents up-to-date information in a vibrant and colorful new design located at its own URL. In keeping with its theme of Safe Youth Safe Community, the website address is www.safeyouthseattle.org.
The Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative was established in 2009 to focus on youth most at risk of perpetuating or being a victim of violence. It focuses on the three neighborhoods where youth violence is highest - Southeast, Southwest and Central Seattle - incorporating evidenced-based strategies along with home-grown, community-created programs.
Initiative Director Mariko Lockhart notes that, "The Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative is community-based and community-led. Having a website that reflects that orientation is important to our mission and helps us get information out to youth and others who care about this issue. This new portal makes it easier and more convenient for community members to learn about the many programs the Initiative provides to enrolled youth and to find resources for young people, even if they are not in the Initiative."
SYVPI will maintain a page on the City of Seattle's website under the Office for Education in the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods.
Seattle Department of Neighborhoods provides programs and services that engage residents in civic participation, foster stronger communities, make government more accessible, and preserve and enhance the character of Seattle's neighborhoods.
