Storyteller Name: Erica Sternin

Email: ehas2dogs@hotmail.com

Neighborhood: Pinehurst

Story: I was diagnosed with breast cancer in September. Several of my neighbors have banded together to help me while I've been recovering from surgery and in chemotherapy. My neighbors have raked the leaves, put my garden to bed for the winter, walked my dog, set up a support group website for me, taken blankets to the laundromat, helped me organize my insurance information (one neighbor is a CPA), put out the garbage, run errands, bought me clothes and much more. I lived for a long time on a small island and I know what "community" feels like. I am so grateful to be living "in town" and still experiencing that same community support. People are good, just looking for a chance to express it.

Neighborhood: Greenwood

Story: I would like to thank all of the volunteer leadership of Greenwood Aurora Involved Neighbors. In particular Cindy Potter, Dan Pavlovic, Will Murray and Brandon Busch! GAIN was started by Cindy over 8 years ago and it has grown to a wonderful connections of neighbors. We have clean ups, block watches, educational meetings and have seen new ideas spring from being together. There is now a GAIN group from Woodland Park zoo all the way to Shoreline in the Greenwood Aurora corridor! It all started with an idea to "do something" about crime in a certain block and has moved to group that proves we can do together as a whole so much more than any one of us could have done alone.
