Welcome to the Northwest District!
The Northwest District encompasses neighborhoods in North Central Seattle. Since District Council boundaries are determined by the established boundaries of their member organizations and by consultation with adjoining neighborhood districts; NW District can be described as that area south of N 145 to approximately NW 50 Street, and generally east of I5 to 8 Ave NW.
The Carkeek Park, Piper’s Creek watershed, Bitter Lake and Haller Lake are the major natural features of the Northwest District. The District is also home to the major regional attractions of Green Lake and the Woodland Park Zoo. A wide variety of programs and activities is available at the district’s two community centers: Bitter Lake and Green Lake Community Centers. There are three branch libraries: Broadview, Greenwood and Green Lake. Older adults are served by the Greenwood Senior Center, while youth programs and services can be found at the North Seattle Boys and Girls Club in Greenwood. North Seattle Community College is an excellent educational institution and community resource. Community gardens and public art can be found throughout the district in surprising places (check out Andrew Morrison’s murals of Native American Chiefs at Wilson Pacific School). Special events unique to the District abound throughout the year.
