Welcome to the Downtown District!
Seattle’s downtown is an eclectic blend of historical and modern neighborhoods, residential and commercial buildings, savvy business groups and passionate community activists.
Additionally, Downtown is home to three historic districts. Citizen’s boards regulate the appearance and historical integrity (and in some cases, uses are also regulated) of structures and public spaces in the International District, Pioneer Square, and Pike Place Market. City projects are NOT exempt from historic regulation and projects that involve building structures or public spaces are required to get approval of the appropriate board.
